Shan's 08 Downtown Wellness Plan
Last Thursday-Saturday I followed a high calcium, high protein eating plan. It is a 3 day plan (outlined below).  
I'm getting ready for my super bowl Sunday feast fest!!  It is not hard to stick to because you snack all through
the day. The hardest part for me is not drinking any wine.... I have done the plan about 4 times now and
haven't been able to do it without wine yet! I guess old habits die hard. I always feel energized while on this plan
and it improves my skin tone as well. You MUST include exercise and stretching each morning while on (and
after) the plan. I never thought I'd be following someone else's eating regimen, but I really need help and
motivation right now. My jeans don't fit!! So join me and get fit in 08! We have the power!
 This is the gym in our building.  I'm trying for every day, but right now
my average is up to 3 days a week.  It is really hard to get back "into it"
after time off.  I usually have the gym myself, which allows me to
concentrate, but I've also met some nice neighbors there.  We have two
treadmills, an eliptor, 2 recumbant bikes and a regular bike.  There is a
workout station where you can work any muscle.  It is spacious and I
usually take my yoga mat and stretch as part of my workout.  There is a
big tv and it has wireless access so you can bring your laptop.






















As you can see, there is a great view and there is always something to
look at out the window!

 I also have my bike here at the loft, there is a bike rack in the garage
which is great!  I'm planning on riding my bike more! There is also a
Bikram yoga studio that I'm dying to go to. The classes are $15 each for
an hour and a half class, so it's kind of steep. I'm going to try for once a
week.

  We take Bridget to Dog's Beach in H.B. every so often, we're trying for
every other Monday! Bridget LOVES the beach!  She is also very good in
the car!  She's a big ball of energy on the sand and in the water, running
from the waves like a little kid!  We have fun running on the beach
together, it is just important to GET OUT! Remember the sun is good for
you providing nutritious Vitamin D, but don't forget the sunscreen!

  There is a great park downtown, a L.A. County park where the old
Corn field used to be on N. Main St.  We go there at least once a week
and walk/run around the track, I think it's over a mile around.  So you
can see, I am at no lose for activity, it's just a matter of choosing one a
day and going for it!

High Calcium 3 day "diet". Eat this for 3 days. Work out. No Salt. No Alcohol.  You can have mineral water as some of your water.

When you wake up have a big glass of water and work out for one hour. At least work out for a half hour, walking is fine.

Breakfast is ONE omega 3 egg prepared without oil.  I poach mine. Boiling is also a good option.
8 oz of plain low fat yogurt. I like the thick greek style.
1 cup of green tea
1 large glass of water

Snack: 2 oz low fat cheese. Jarlsbert Lite from Trader Joes is pretty good, I like the swiss. Also the little baby bell lite is a great choice!
Several glasses of water spaced out over the morning.

Lunch is a can (4 oz) of Tonno Tuna or salmon with LOTS of lemon and pepper. No salt, no mayo. Just eat the tuna with lemon. Put it in a nice
bowl and sit down and enjoy it. It grows on you. If you buy good quality Tonno Tuna (not white - it has more mercury than light) in oil and
drain it well and just soak it with lemon!
Large glass of water

Afternoon Snack: 8 oz of low fat calcium enriched cottage cheese with 1/2 cup raw cauliflower or broccoli spears.
Several glasses of water over the course of the afternoon.

Dinner is 2 Cups of salad greens with a Tablespoon of ginger soy dressing.
4 oz of steamed, grilled, broiled or baked fish or shellfish. May be brushed with a little extra virgin olive oil.
1/2 Cup steamed spinach, green beans, asparagus or broccoli topped with... you guessed it, lemon juice!
A large glass of water.

Before bed you get 8 more oz of low fat yogurt.

Total calories: 1225
Total protein: 105 grams
Total calcium: 1300 mg
